Alice Egler Capone

September 2, 1927 — March 30, 2020

Alice Mae Egler Capone passed on peacefully in her sleep and went home to her Lord on Monday, March 30th, at her home on Johns Island, SC, with her family nearby. She was 92 years old and had been lovingly cared for by her husband Patrick Robert Capone. They would have celebrated their 69th Wedding Anniversary on April 14th.

Alice was born on September 2nd, 1927 on a family farm in Union, NJ to Anna Westervelt Egler and George John Egler. The family later moved to Springfield, NJ where Alice spent her school years growing up in this beautiful colonial town. Raised a Christian, she joined the First Presbyterian Church of Springfield in her teen years. Following her graduation from Jonathan Dayton Regional High School, Alice joined the secretarial staff at C P Chemical Co. in Newark, NJ. Her time living in Springfield was filled with loving family and friends that she cherished throughout her life. In later years, Alice was a founding member of the Presbyterian Church of Chatham Township, NJ where she was active in church life, especially enjoying the companionship of her Circle Ladies.

Alice and her husband Pat raised their family in Chatham Township, where they lived for over 60 years, before moving to Johns Island. In their life together they enjoyed entertaining family and friends, gardening, sailing on Barnegat Bay, visiting their villa on Kiawah Island, and travelling the world. Alice was predeceased by her parents, her sister Viola Egler Vaisman Linardo, and her brother Emory George Egler. She has two children, Christine Capone Sandy and her husband John, and Jeffrey Robert Capone and his late wife Cee-Cee.

Alice took great joy in creating a beautiful, loving home, and in her family, especially her three grandchildren: Justin Patrick Sandy (Michelle), Ellen Lawrence Sandy (Riley) and Peter Jeffrey Capone. She was thrilled to welcome her first great grandchild Erik Talon Sandy last August and was looking forward to the birth of her second great grandchild this coming July.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a future date. Donations in Alice’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, the Valente Italian Library at Seton Hall University, or a charity of your choice.
