Barbara Helen Ray (Sewell)

Barbara Helen Sewell Ray, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 10, 2013. Barbara was born on December 25, 1927, to the late Howard G. and Violet West Sewell. Barbara was preceded in death by seven of her ten brothers and sisters. She is survived by her four daughters Leslie Bienz of Charleston, SC; Phoenix Ray-Grant (Allen) of Chaptico, MD; Christine Jennings of Charleston, SC; and Joyce Lane (Walter) of Seattle, WA. She cherished her six grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren, as well as countless nieces, nephews, neighbors, and cousins. Barbara loved music, books, laughter, and learning. She was a Toastmaster Advanced Communicator; she taught adults how to read for the Literacy Council, worked tireless hours for community theater, and was a dedicated classroom volunteer at Springfield Elementary School. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Requiem Mass at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 16, 2013, at the Church of the Holy Communion, 218 Ashley Ave., Charleston, SC, 29403. Flowers are welcome at the church, as are contributions to the Church of the Holy Communion, and to Hospice of Charleston at 4975 LaCross Road, Suite 200, N. Charleston, SC 29406.
