Barbara R Williams

July 12, 1929 — April 20, 2017

Memorial services for Barbara Reeves Williams will be held on Sunday, May 7th at Bethany Cemetery, with Father Bob O’Connell officiating.

Barbara R. Williams, 87, of Summerville, passed away on Thursday April 20, 2017 at Royal Oaks Senior Care in Summerville, SC. Friends and family are invited to attend “A Celebration of Life” at her daughter, Laura’s home in Summerville on May 7th from 1 PM to 6 PM.

Barbara was born on July 12, 1929, in Charleston, SC daughter of Amelia Marguerite Walker and Enos Theodore Reeves of Charleston. Mrs. Walker is the former Miss Amelia M. Ruff. Mr. Reeves, born 1893, was the Great Grandson of General Johann Andreas Wagener, founder of Walhalla, SC, General in the Civil War, and the 43rd Mayor of Charleston, SC. Heritage was very important to Mrs. Williams and she researched her genealogy and gave each of her 6 children their genealogy dating back to the birth of her Great, Great Grandfather, Johann Andreas Wagener., born July 21, 1816.

Barbara Williams loved to dance! And she was great at it. She did round dancing, ballroom, shagging, jitterbug, and many others. As she aged, she remained very active, walking several times a day. Everyone in the neighborhood got to know her as she walked every day. She was a warm and loving woman. She volunteered and visited and helped the elderly and less fortunate. She taught the rural illiterate how to read. And she was a wonderful Mother.
