Betty Ann Avritt Mathis, 79, Isle of Palms, wife of Walter H. Mathis died October 3, 2012. She was born May 2, 1933, in Bradfordsville, KY, daughter of Roy Lee Avritt and Virginia Flanagan Avritt. Mrs. Mathis graduated from Mt. Washington High School and married her husband in 1951. She was a lifelong homemaker raising seven children. She volunteered her time to numerous causes most notably The Garden Club of South Carolina for over 40 years. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 56 years, and is survived by her sister Alta Avritt Patteson of Fern Creek, KY; daughters Lucy and husband Dennis Martin of Hanahan; Patricia 'Pat' and husband David Freeman of Mt. Pleasant; Pamela 'Pam' and husband Michael 'Mike' Martin of Bonneau; Wendy Mathis of Isle of Palms; Cherri and husband John Fontana of Campbell, CA; Julie and husband Larry Hale of Jacksonville, FL; a son Jeffrey 'Jeff' C. Mathis of Isle of Palms; 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, October 6, , 2012, from 2 PM to 5 PM at the home of Pat and David Freeman, 1601 Longview Road, Mt Pleasant.
