Earl Russell Young Jr.

August 28, 1935 — August 4, 2014

Earl Russell Young passed into the arms of God August 4, 2014 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born in Fort Monroe, Virginia 78 years ago, the son of an Army Air Corps airplane mechanic. Earl also served with honor and distinction in the United States Air Force. Even though his passion was any kind of flying object, especially airplanes, the Air Force needed him to work with radar and electronics. After 20 years in the Air Force, a second career led him to work with pioneers in ultrasound at Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, NC. He is survived by his wife “Billie” of 56 years, two sisters, Jane Young and Joyce Griner and brother-in-law, Terry Griner; daughter Barbara Keim and son-in-law Paul Keim; daughter Bonnie Young; grand-daughter Christina Schofield and grand-son-in-law, William Schofield and great-grandson, Branden Rion. The memorial service will be at James Island Presbyterian Church on August 8 at 11 AM, with a gathering to follow in the sanctuary. His cremains will be interred in the church’s Memorial Garden. The family requests no flowers, but memorial donations may be made to the James Island Presbyterian Church Music Fund, 1632 Fort Johnson Road, Charleston, SC 29412.
