Jennifer Walker Weinstein, 66, died peacefully in her West Ashley home September 6, 2013, after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Known to friends as Jenny, she dedicated herself to a life of service to others, both personally and professionally. She attended James Island High School and was a member of the last graduating class of St. Francis School of Nursing. Jenny graduated on her twenty-first birthday and worked as a nurse for over forty years. She was director of nurses at Fenwick Hall, Charter Hospital, and Manor Care, and worked as a pediatric nurse practioner for Charleston County Schools. Jenny spent the last years of her career working with troubled children at MUSC’s Institute of Psychiatry. Jenny was abundantly generous and she loved to entertain. Even as she far-surpassed the doctors’ prognosis, she cooked extravagant brunches for her family every Sunday, planted and tended an enviable rose garden, doted on her grandchildren—North, Saylor, Raya, Max, and Caleb—and cared for her ailing husband, William Weinstein, until his death on April 6, 2013. A longtime resident of Seabrook Island, Jenny spent countless mornings on turtle patrol ensuring the safety of the delicate turtle eggs. Her life touched and enriched so many during her own earthly journey. Jenny is survived by her mother, Bonnie Still Walker; her brother, James Walker; her daughter, Rebecca Harper Gaines; Rebecca’s husband, Tron Gaines; her son Christopher Rabon Harper, his wife, Jaci Crowley Harper; and Rebecca’s and Chris’ father, Floyd Rabon Harper. A memorial service will be held September 14, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral Church of Saint Luke and Saint Paul, 126 Coming Street, Charleston, SC 29403, with a visitation to follow. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Agape Senior, 1053 Center Street, West Columbia, SC 29169.
