Nora Hogan Faust

February 24, 1932 — January 11, 2020

Nora Mary Hogan Faust, 87, of Summerville, SC, entered into eternal rest on January 11, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on February 24, 1932 in Oneida, NY, Nora was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Hogan. She was pre-deceased by her husband Rudolph F. Faust, Jr., parents, sisters Katie Clark and Mary Hogan, and brother Larry Hogan.

Nora the Nurse was a life-long caregiver. She received her Registered Nursing degree from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital School of Nursing in Utica, NY, and served 9 years in the US Navy Nurse Corps traveling the world and tending to the sick. She left the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander for motherhood and a civilian nursing career that spanned 40 years. Nora was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith having been both a nun and a Sunday school teacher. She was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, a square dancer and league bowler with her late husband, a Snarley Snuffin Puffin Muffin baker, and a Go Fisher with her grandchildren. Her hands were rarely still and she blessed so many with her handknit dishcloths and baby hats and scarves. She had a patriotic dedication to her country and gratitude for her fellow service members. She was a member of the American Legion Post 147 and National Sojourners.

She lived an extraordinary life and was selfless whenever and wherever her care, support and love were needed. Her Irish wit, caring ways and ever-ready smile will be greatly missed. Fair winds and following seas, Nora the Nurse.

Nora is survived by her three daughters Lisa (Paul) Fitzpatrick of Colts Neck, NJ, Linda Faust of Summerville, and Madison Faust of Superior, CO; three adored grandsons Kyle Faust, Quinn Harris and Gabriel Rodriguez; brothers Thomas (Ellen) Hogan, Michael Hogan, and Fran (Laura) Hogan; sister Rose (Ernie) Perkins; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
