Bess Mae King, age 82, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026.
She was born on September 22, 1943, and lived a life devoted to her family, grounded in faith, service, and quiet resilience.
Bess was the beloved daughter of Velma Daugherty King and Mitchell King, both of whom preceded her in death.
She was a devoted mother to her four children, all of whom survive her: Angela R. Young, Anthony W. Duncan, Barry H. Duncan (Brandy), and James A. Duncan. Her family was the center of her life, and she took great pride in each of her children and the lives they built.
A staunch Christian, Bess’s faith guided her throughout her life. She was also a devoted military wife for many years during her former marriage to James (Jim) Duncan Sr., faithfully supporting him while raising their family.
She is survived by her siblings Morris King and Bonnell King. She was preceded in death by her siblings Dean Lankford, Joyce Day, Maxine King, and Norma Jones. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bess leaves behind a cherished legacy through her ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. She will be interred in Kentucky in a family cemetery alongside her parents.
Bess Mae King will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to family, her years of quiet service as a military spouse, and the strength and grace with which she lived her life. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
