Betty Patricia Neumann

April 6, 1936 — May 28, 2019

On Tuesday, May 28, 2019, Betty Neumann, wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away at 83 years old after fighting colon cancer for 2 years. Betty will be forever remembered by her family and friends as a loving and caring wife, mother and elementary school teacher. She will be warmly remembered by husband, Wernes Neumann, children, David (Shirley), John, Paul, and Kristina(Trey) along with grand children, Scott and Courtney. Betty will also be forever remembered by her numerous 2nd & 3rd grade students over her 15 year career as an elementary teacher.
Betty grew up as an active person who enjoyed activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, swimming, bowling, golfing, tennis, and various other sports. Being a military wife of 20 years, she kept up with the constant moving (every 2 years) and managing the household while her husband was TDY. Family ties were in Houston Texas, but duty stations were in Arizona and Nevada so twice a year she would support a 1300 mile road trip so the grandchildren stayed close to their relatives. Her military wife travels even included a 2 year stay in Morocco Africa, which was one of the most memorable experiences for the family. Even after leaving the military, she liked adventure so she took a teaching job for the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS) in Darmstadt, Germany for 4 years. In her early sixties, she learned Tae-Bo kick boxing and eventually started instructing classes. Being an avid fisherman, she with her husband periodically drove over 4 hours to go pier/jetty fishing down in Matagorda, Texas. She was always a staunch supporter of her children's endeavors, so she will be sorely missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 31st, at 10:00 a.m., at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1444 Remount Rd, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406.
After the passing of her husband, the couple's final burial will be celebrated at the Schulenburg City Cemetery, Schulenburg, Texas.
