Brenda Gay Holladay

Brenda Gay Bodie Holladay, 73, passed away on April 11, 2026, with the two people she loved most by her side: her husband of 50 years, Doug Holladay, and her daughter and best friend, Kristen Holladay.

It feels fitting that Brenda left this earth on a beautiful, sunny day in Charleston - a reflection of her life: beautiful and full of light. Even in grief, we are reminded that what her friends and family will remember most is the joy and warmth she brought to every conversation, every gathering, and every small moment. Even the medical personnel who cared for her noted how she would say "thank you" after any needle prick or uncomfortable procedure.

Brenda was a lover of travel, spending years exploring the world as a travel agent. She often took her family on adventures, sharing with them the beauty of new places. Some of her favorite trips included Australia and Ireland, as well as a cross-country van trip with her husband as newlyweds. She also found great joy in the arts and books, spending hours poring over pages or attending shows that carried her to faraway destinations.

Brenda loved a good party and never missed a chance to dance. Whether at the Charleston Rifle Club, a post-church picnic, a New Year's Eve or Oscar party, or just at home, she had a passion for bringing people together - and inevitably, she had to twirl a few times on the dance floor, or the party simply wasn't complete.

Most importantly, Brenda loved her family. Her sister, Debbie, called her "Little Mama" because of Brenda's role in her life. She met the love of her life, Doug, and the connection was instant. They became inseparable and were engaged just months later. Their bond grew even stronger with the arrival of their daughter, Kristen, who became the light of their lives. Even in the midst of life's hardest moments, this family's devotion to each other carried them through.

Brenda would remind us to enjoy life: take the trip, go on the picnic, twirl on the dance floor, and be with the people you love. We hope you will remember her this way.

Funeral services for Brenda will be held on Saturday, April 18th at 4 p.m. at Saint Andrews Parish United Methodist Church, followed by a celebration of life and a toast to Brenda will be held 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM  on Sunday, April 19th at Canterbury Woods Community Clubhouse.
