Brian Paul Hale, 54, of North Charleston, South Carolina, formerly of North Tazewell, VA passed away on September 5, 2025. He was born on June 3, 1971, in Chicago, Illinois to Reverend Frank and Wilma Hale.
He graduated at the top of his class from Tazewell Christian Academy in Tazewell, Virginia, in 1989. Brian was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving seven years active duty as a Senior Airman with the 82nd Civil Engineering Squadron. He was stationed for three years at Bitburg Air Base in Germany. He served in the Gulf War operation Desert Storm. Served the remainder of his active duty time at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. He served six years in the Air National Guard in Charleston, West Virginia.
In 1997, Brian assisted in the start up Tazewell County 911. Later served as Deputy Director of Tazewell County Emergency Services for 12 years. He also volunteered for 13 years as a firefighter and EMT, serving as a Second EMS Lieutenant with Tazewell County Fire and Rescue in Tazewell Virginia. He retired in 2020 as a sergeant from the Virginia Department of Corrections at Pocahontas State Correctional Center in Pocahontas, Virginia. Before his passing, he was working at Palmetto State Armory in Charleston, South Carolina.
An avid history enthusiast, Brian was proud of his Cherokee heritage. He spent many years at the Crab Orchard Museum in Tazewell, Virginia, and participated in Eastern Primitive Rendezvous. He loved reenacting the civil war. For the past 15 years, he loved portraying Santa for his children, grandchildren, and all children, doing so for multiple organizations in Tazewell, Virginia, and recently for Toys for Tots in Charleston, South Carolina. Brian loved helping people and would give the shirt right off his back. He had a great passion for guns, enjoyed working with them and talking about them. He loved to ride his bike, Hobo. He had a service dog named Daisy Mae since 2017, whom he loved dearly.
Brian was preceded in death by his Father Reverend Frank Hale and mother Wilma Hale brother, Mitch Hale, and sister-in-law, Monica Robinette.
Brian is survived by his children, daughter Dedra and husband, Luke Chambers of Princeton Wv, daughter Megan Griffith of Spainshburg Wv, and son Garrett Hale of North Charleston SC. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Xandrea Griffith, Zayleigh Griffith, Daverrah Griffith, Jasper Chambers, Katherine Chambers and Micah Paul Chambers, His brother Chris Hale wife, Sherry Hale of Tazewell VA, Uncle Tony Matney wife Pam Matney, uncle Don Hale wife Evelyn of Baptist valley VA, and his special cousin Denny Lee Matney. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Aaron Hale wife Anne Hale; Heather Hale-Peoples husband Rodney Peoples; Tanner Hale wife Amanda Hale; and Hannah Hale, as well as numerous other cousins. He is also survived by the mothers of his children, Teresa Hungate of Blacksburg Va and Susan Hale of Spanishburg Wv and his companion, Karen Miller of North Charleston, SC.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at a later date, to be determined.
