Carol M. Britton, born September 23, 1955, in Columbia, South Carolina, entered the presence of the Lord on January 22, 2025. A woman of grace, creativity, and unwavering faith, Carol lived a life marked by artistry, compassion, and deep devotion to her Episcopal community.
Raised in Columbia, Carol graduated from Wildwood Academy and went on to study at Lees‑McRae College and the University of South Carolina. During her youth and university years, she blossomed as an accomplished ballerina, performing in numerous productions and later sharing her love of dance by teaching ballet.
Carol's professional journey was as dynamic as her creative spirit. She began her career in retail at Rich's Department Store, later transitioning into the family's wholesale clothing business in Columbia, where she designed a women's apparel line known as the Forest Oaks Collection. Most recently, she served the Columbia community as the owner and operator of Pure Pilates, specializing in personal training, injury recovery, and wellness for aging clients.
A lifelong lover of animals and the outdoors, Carol was also an accomplished equestrian, competing in both Tennessee Walking Horse and Hunter Jumper classes. Carol's deep love for animals extended far beyond the stable. She devoted significant time and energy to the Boykin Spaniel Rescue of South Carolina, where her kindness and commitment made a meaningful impact on the organization's mission. Throughout her life, she cared for several beloved Boykin Spaniels-from her first, Maggie, to her most recent companion, Lacie-each one a testament to her gentle spirit and the joy she found in nurturing God's creatures.
Yet it was her faith-steady, expressive, and generously lived-that most defined Carol's life. As a devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia, she poured herself into parish life. She was especially active with the Flower Guild and the Trinity Bazaar, where her creativity and leadership helped raise funds for numerous charitable organizations.
Carol was the daughter of Stuart W. Britton and Nancy Carol (Upchurch) Britton. She is survived by her brother Stuart W. (Buddy) Britton, Jr. (Susan Dunn Britton), formerly of Columbia and now residing in Seabrook, South Carolina.
A memorial service celebrating Carol's life and resurrection hope will be held on Thursday, February 5th at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 1100 Sumter Street in Columbia. Her remains will be interred on the Cathedral grounds. A gathering in her honor will follow the service in Satterlee Hall. Donations accepted in Carol's memory to Trinity Cathedral Foundation at 1100 Sumter St. Columbia, S.C. 20201.
Carol's life reflected grace-in movement, in creativity, in service, and in faith. May she rest in the eternal light and peace of God.
