It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our mother, Claire C. Dawson, who passed away peacefully at home in Summerville on Friday, November 7, 2025, surrounded by her family. Her 94 years on this earth were filled with love, compassion, and remarkable generosity.
Born on April 17, 1931, in Fall River, Massachusetts, Claire was the daughter of the late Peter Albert Clark and Alice Walker Clark. She earned her Associate’s Degree and dedicated 25 years of her life to the telecommunications industry, where she was not only a valued colleague but also a cherished friend to many.
Claire was known for her gigantic heart and her unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. She opened her home to countless people over the years, extending warmth, kindness, and care to all who crossed her path. Her generosity and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her.
Throughout her life, Claire lived in many places—including Maryland, Panama, Charleston, Scotland, Virginia, and Key West—following her family’s journey and making each place a home filled with love and laughter.
She is survived by her son, Edward (Eddie) W. Dawson (Amelia) of Charleston, and her daughter, Cynthia (Cindy) D. Kershaw (Steven) of Summerville; grandchildren Edward E. Dawson (Ashley) [U.S. Navy] and Tyler Dawson (Valerie) of Charleston; and great-grandchildren Ana and Max. On her daughter’s side, she is survived by grandchildren Amber Regan of Summerville and Kenton Kershaw (Chiedizberg) [U.S. Navy]; and great-grandchildren Trinity, Serenity, Jayce, and Ezreal.
Claire was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bertrand (Bert) F. Dawson, and her son, Tadeus (Teddy) C. Dawson. Their memory lives on through the stories and love shared by her family.
Claire will be dearly missed by all who knew her, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
A memorial service will be held to honor Claire’s life and the love she shared with so many.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of choice, reflecting Claire’s lifelong commitment to helping others.
