Reverend Doctor Chaplain Colonel Clarence Leroy “Rusty” Reaser, a devoted husband, father, and servant of faith, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026, in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Born on January 29, 1931, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Rusty lived a life marked by service to his country, his community, and his faith.

Rusty graduated from Williamsport High School before pursuing higher education at Maryville College in Tennessee. He furthered his theological studies at Princeton Theological Seminary and Union Seminary, preparing for a lifetime of ministry and spiritual leadership. His deep commitment to serving others led him to a distinguished career in the U.S. Army Chaplaincy from 1957 to 1986, retiring as a Colonel. During this time, he provided spiritual guidance and support to countless service members and their families. Notably he served in Vietnam in 1969 offering solace and strength during one of the most challenging periods in American history.

After retiring from military service Rusty continued his ministry as Pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Warner Robins, Georgia. Later, he became Parish Associate at First Presbyterian Church in Martinsville, Virginia. His dedication to preaching and teaching remained steadfast throughout his life; he delivered his final sermon at First Presbyterian Church Martinsville on September 28, 2025.

Rusty’s unwavering faith was central to his life. A devout Presbyterian, he found joy and purpose in helping others through both his ministry and community involvement. A proud member of Rotary International for over 40 years, Rusty exemplified the organization’s motto of “Service Above Self”. He served as President of the Martinsville Rotary Club, where his leadership and compassion left a lasting impact.

Beyond his professional achievements and community service, Rusty cherished time with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Ann Wearn Vaughan Reaser; stepdaughter Sarah Boyden (Steve) of Menlo Park CA; son Randy Ruggles (Christina) of Vilseck Germany; son Paul Reaser of Petersburg VA; daughters Heather Peel of Winkfield UK and Rebecca Marlowe of Stephens City VA; seven grandchildren who brought him immense pride; and his brother Warren Elmer Reaser (Sandi) of Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Rusty found great pleasure in reading – a pastime that reflected his intellectual curiosity and love for learning. Those who knew him remember him as a kind–hearted man whose wisdom and warmth touched everyone he met. His legacy as a loving husband, father, mentor, and friend will endure in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May the memory of Chaplain Colonel Clarence Leroy “Rusty” Reaser bring comfort to those who mourn his passing while inspiring others to live lives of service and compassion as he did so faithfully.
