Listen to Obituary

Clifton David Hiott, known to those who loved him as David, Dave, Davio, or to his "trucker" associates "Heavy D", entered into eternal rest on the morning of Saturday, May 23rd.

He was a quiet, steady presence in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know him — a gentle giant with a laugh that could fill a room and a heart even bigger than his stature.

David was preceded in death by his biological father, Clif Hiott; his step-father, William (Bill) Baldwin III; his mother, Elizabeth A. Lockwood Baldwin; his aunt, Evelyn Lockwood; and his beloved ex-wife and dearest friend, Barbara Clark Ciaramitaro.

He is survived by his only daughter, E. Kristine McCain (Paul); his grandchildren, Kaiden Hiott and Bristol Collier; and his step-grandchildren, Conner Ragland (Kaitlyn) and Emily McCain.

David was a man of many quiet gifts. A talented artist, he also possessed a rare musical ability — he could sit down at a piano and play any song he had ever heard, never having read a single note of music. He was a devoted father who kept the household running, made sure dinner was on the table, and ensured that his daughter never wanted for anything. He was the kind of man who did what needed to be done, without fanfare and without complaint.

To his daughter, he was her whole world. To her friends, he was a second father — always welcoming, never judgmental, and forever steady. He was lovingly known as “Mr. Giggles” for his warm, easy laugh that seemed to find humor and lightness in almost every moment. Though he carried himself with a quiet toughness, those closest to him knew the truth — beneath that exterior was one of the most tender and loving souls you could ever hope to meet.

Though his marriage did not last, his friendship with Barbara endured for the rest of their lives. The two remained devoted friends, a testament to the kind of man David truly was.

David will be forever loved and deeply missed by his family, his grandchildren, and the countless friends whose lives he touched simply by being himself. He leaves behind a hole that cannot be filled, but also a legacy of love, laughter, and quiet strength that will carry on in all who were blessed to know him.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in his memory.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 20th at 2pm. Please arrive no later than 1:30pm.
