Beverly McBee Whitmire died at the age of 86 on February 8, 2026. She was born on April 1, 1939 in Greenville, South Carolina to Mildred Edwards Whitmire and Beverly Thompson Whitmire.

She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Emory University and later in life earned a doctorate in communication disorders from Northwestern University.

She spent her career serving the needs of children with learning disabilities culminating in her work establishing the VISTAS Program at the Spartanburg Day School.

Beverly was an artist whose beautiful pottery covers the shelves of her children and loved ones.

She was fiercely independent and enjoyed the last thirty years of her life living on her beautiful mountain in Zirconia, North Carolina. Beverly taught her children, and everyone with whom she came into contact, the power and importance of treating everyone with love, grace, kindness, dignity and humanity.

In 1973, Beverly traveled to India where she deepened her understanding of her beloved Meher Baba. For the remainder of her life to the moment of her death, her Baba family was a source of constant love, song, kindness, and acceptance.

Beverly is survived by her daughters McBee Reynolds (David), Fielding Pringle (Bill Nettles), and her grandchildren Capers Zimmerman, Jackson Pringle, Lucinda Pringle, Sawyer Pringle, William Nettles, and Alex Nettles.

Beverly was preceded in death by her grandson Tristan Jordan White.
