Edgar “Ed” Connor Wrightson passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Born October 30, 1954, he was a son of the late John May Wrightson and Gladys White Wrightson.
Ed had a deep passion for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time pursuing a variety of hobbies, which brought him both peace and joy throughout his life. Paddling was a special passion. He led thousands of people on paddling trips over the years keeping them safe and helping them have fun in nature. He worked for many years as an indoor environmental professional, where he was respected for his knowledge, diligence, and commitment to his work. He was also a great storyteller, known for his vivid memories and sense of humor.
Ed was devoted to his family and will be remembered for his quiet strength, loyalty, and steady presence. He valued time spent with loved ones and took great pride in being a father, brother, uncle, and grandfather.
Survivors include his sisters, Marian Hawley Smith (James Seal) of Gilbert, SC and Hilda Wrightson Flamholtz (Jonathan) of Columbia; his twin brother, Joseph Connor Wrightson (Kathleen) of West Columbia; his son, Joseph Eugene Wrightson II (Aris); and his granddaughter, Grace Olivia Wrightson. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, William Arthur Hawley of Gilbert, Joseph Connor Wrightson Jr. (Lara) of Anderson, SC, Michael Anthony Pesesko (Kristian) of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Victoria Rose Wrightson (Eddie Leitgeb) and John Alexander Wrightson, both of West Columbia.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen Wrightson.
He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew and loved him. A celebration of life will be held February 15, 2026, 3pm, at Chestnut Hill Plantation Clubhouse, 851 Lost Creek Drive in Columbia.
