Listen to Obituary

Elayne B. Sheridan, 65, of Brevard, North Carolina, and Awendaw, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 after a brief illness.

Elayne was born on July 26, 1959, in Colorado Springs, CO, to Geraldine (Mau) Streubel and Theodore Streubel. After leaving home, she traveled the world as a finance professional, helping to establish the SIMEX exchange company in Singapore and teaching in Tokyo. She returned to the United States to earn her MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and established herself as a leader in business writing and organizational development in Chicago, before relocating to Boston and then to the Carolinas.

Elayne loved to teach and coach, and was passionate about her work as a leadership consultant. She also had a love for jewelry design and fabrication, working with gold and silver to set gemstones in intricate, nature-inspired earrings and pendants. She was an avid gardener, birdwatcher, and fisherwoman, and took pride in the number of hummingbirds she attracted to her garden each year.

Elayne is preceded in death by her parents, Geri and Theodore, and her siblings, Larry, Gary, Wayne, and Diane. She is remembered with love by her daughter Helenmary Sheridan; her brother TJ; her two grandchildren; her partner Dennis DeVore; and countless colleagues and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Avian Conservation Center (formerly the Center for Birds of Prey) in Awendaw, SC, where Elayne volunteered as a caretaker for hawks, eagles, and other amazing wild birds.
