Gertrude Irene Woodcock

Gertrude Irene Woodcock (MacPhee), 79, of Irmo, SC, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, March 11, 2026.

Born on July 24, 1946, in Souris, Prince Edward Island, Canada, Gertrude was the daughter of Philomena (Campbell) MacPhee and Ernest MacPhee.

A compassioned Registered Nurse, she took pleasure in serving those in need. Shortly after graduating from Charlottetown Hospital School of Nursing in 1966, she moved to San Francisco where she met some of her longest and oldest friends. While in the bay area she was offered an opportunity to work in Saudi Arabia. While in Saudi Arabia she became one of the first female nurse managers at her hospital (and possibly in Saudi Arabia). She would later live in Singapore before eventually moving back to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and then to Columbia, South Carolina where she remained for the rest of her career working in the Emergency Department at Richland, Baptist, Lexington, and Newberry. Later, working in the field of psychiatry until the time of her retirement.

Outside of the hospital she enjoyed the ocean, joining a wind surfing club in Singapore, skiing, and of course more travel to all corners of the world to experience different cultures.

Above all else Gertie loved her family. Frequently making the long trip from Columbia, SC with her two sons back to Prince Edward Island. Where there was always a MacPhee she could surprise with a visit, a coffee, a story to be told, and a cold glass of wine.

Gertrude is preceded in death by her brothers Bernard, Francis, and Russell; sisters Catherine, and Marie; Father and Mother.

Gertrude is survived by her two sons Benjamin and Alexander; and her grandchildren Scarlet, Abbigail, and Liam.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Palmetto Cremation Society - Columbia, 1733 Airport Blvd, Cayce, SC 29033.
