Jacob Robert Ellington

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of our beloved husband, father, brother and friend Jacob Robert Ellington.

Born January 23, 1985 to Susan Woodbridge Ellington and Timothy Jerome Ellington of Sandy Springs, Georgia, Jake developed a passion for the outdoors, hunting, sports, and of course, fly fishing. A graduate of Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School in Atlanta, Georgia, Jake went on to earn degrees in business and finance from the University of Colorado. After many years as a business entrepreneur, Jake changed course to focus on his passion for fly fishing as an inshore charter guide (Osprey Fly Charters).

Jake was preceded in death by his mother, Susan Ellington. He is survived by his wife, Margeaux Fraunfelter Ellington; their two daughters, Eleanor James (8) and Maeve Woodbridge (6); their bonus son, James Mads Newberry (17); Jake's father, Tim Ellington; his sister, Lauren Ellington Chilton (Jonah) of Denver, Colorado; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

When Jake was not on the water, he was most likely enjoying family life; teaching his girls how to toss a lacrosse ball, the best zip line technique, and understanding the importance of a healthy ecosystem to keep the fish happy! He loved James, considered him his own son from the first day they met, and was so honored to help raise such an amazing young man. Jake never fell short of telling his incredible wife how much he loved her; countless phone calls each day, fresh flowers "just because," and making her smile just by being Jake - the guy with the biggest heart and kindest spirit. Jake was the best husband and father anyone could’ve asked for, but God needed him there and saw fit to take him home earlier than we had hoped.

A Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2025 on the dock of 1602 Thompson Avenue, Sullivan's Island. A reception will follow at the Ellington’s home located 1902 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island.

In lieu of flowers, please direct any donations to Captains for Clean Water, an organization very “near and dear" to his heart. We will miss you Jake - but we feel your spirit every time we watch the water move, and we will see you again across the eternal waves.
