James (Jim) L Tyo, Jr, 96, of Summerville, SC passed away peacefully on Saturday February 28, 2026. He was born in Watertown, NY on July 12, 1929, to the late James L Tyo, Sr and Adeline (Frego) Tyo.

Jim was a 1947 graduate of Adams Center (NY) High School and was a veteran of the US Navy Reserve, having served from 1947 – 1960.

Jim initially worked for the railroads in Watertown and then started an almost 40 year career in the meat department with Grand Union Supermarkets that took him to Syracuse, Utica, Elmira and finally to Cortland, NY. He started out as a butcher but grew to be a meat manager, supervisor of many stores' meat departments, a meat buyer working in the warehouse in Cortland and finally back in the Cortland store as the meat manager before retiring in 1990.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Shirley Louise Tyo.

Jim is survived by his son, James (Jay) L Tyo III, and wife Lucinda (Cindy) of Summerville, SC. Granddaughters Corinne Tyo, Jaime Childress and her husband Cody; and sister Patricia (Tyo) Smith of Wilmington, DE, as well as 20 nieces and nephews.
