Janine Michelle Krivejko

April 9, 1972 — July 10, 2023

Charleston

Janine Krivejko, 51 of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2023, after a courageous 4-year battle against a rare auto-immune disease.

Born on April 9, 1972 in Kenmore, New York, Janine was the cherished Daughter of Sharon Lojek Wassmer(Gary) and the late James M. Lojek.

Janine was a whirling dervish with an infectious smile from the day she was born to the day she passed. As a child she loved her trips with her grandmother into downtown Buffalo for lunch and browsing. But, she hated her dresses and tights. She would rather be fishing or playing in the mud outside. After graduating from Williamsville North High School, she attended Buffalo State University for a time before finishing her degree in Sociology at Kent State University. This was the start of a long career in the services of others. Janine had a career of over 30 years in the property management of low income and senior housing. Janine quickly moved up and managed larger and larger properties. Eventually she oversaw Regions and growing to overseeing several States. Janine managed the construction of several large properties, negotiated $500 million contracts with federal agencies such as HUD. She was in Charleston for less than a year and had already made a name for herself with the local government. Regardless of her position, she was also known to roll up her sleeves and do any of the dirty work required. As such, she was admired by the staff she oversaw. At each property, she was beloved by her residents. As she moved forward in her career, the ownership would receive angry letters from her residents complaining that she was leaving the property. She touched and helped countless people to not only find housing but helped them on to paths to becoming self-dependent. She "adopted" children at every property, many of which couldn't wait for 3:00 so they could come visit her. Janine also adopted animals. There wasn't a stray animal she wouldn't want to adopt. She firmly believed in pet rescue organizations as noted by our 4 dogs, all rescues. Janine loved her family taking many trips to Buffalo and Myrtle for visits. There is not a person who has met Janine who has not been affected by her amazing smile and her love of life. She was and is a free spirit and lived life in that manner.

Janine is preceded in death by her father James Lojek and her Grandparents: Anna Edwards, Agnes Lojek, Richard and Joan Steudel Sr., Rose Krivejko, and Pearl Branson.

Janine is survived by her loving husband Peter Krivejko; her adoring parents Gary and Sharon Wassmer; her treasured brother Brian Lojek, her beloved in-laws Richard and Wanda Steudel Jr., her loving father-in-law Ron Krivejko along with many aunts & uncles, In-laws, nieces and nephews

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Old South Church, 9802 Chillicothe Road in Kirtland, Ohio. There will be a reception afterwards. It would be Janine's wish to ask those attending to wear colors in celebration instead of black of mourning.
