Joyce Webster Barnes, 76, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, June 9th around 10pm, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Sayre, Pennsylvania, Joyce was the daughter of Franklin and Florence Webster of Sylvania, Pennsylvania. She graduated from the Williamsport School of Commerce and went on to build a life centered on family and caring for others.
Joyce spent many years working alongside her husband, Rick Barnes, helping to build and operate their business in Athens, Pennsylvania. In later years, she transitioned to become an Independent Medicare Agent, assisting seniors as they navigated important healthcare decisions. Her clients and colleagues will remember her dedication, compassion, and commitment to helping others.
Above all else, Joyce was a devoted wife, proud mother and grandmother, loving sister, and loyal friend. She is survived by her husband, Rick Barnes; her children, Anne Marie Bower, Matthew Barnes, Nicklaus Barnes, and adopted son, Obadiah Ramahdan Barnes; her grandchildren, Teague Bower, Quinn Powers, and Ethan Ganzell; and her great-granddaughter, Shea Laine Powers, who shared Joyce's birthday—a connection that brought her a special joy.
Joyce loved deeply and generously. She had an amazing gift for making people feel welcome, and she cared for those around her with her whole heart. She was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, traits she proudly passed on to her children. She was kind and warm, but she could catch people off guard with her sense of humor with a perfectly timed joke and a mischievous giggle.
She had a special bond with her dogs and loved them deeply. She found comfort in their presence and they brought her great joy throughout her life.
She loved tending her garden and decorating for the holidays, always making sure flowers and decorations reflected the season. She took pride in creating a home that felt welcoming and full of life.
Among family and friends that knew her best, one of her most notable talents was her exceptional cooking. Rather it be a holiday feast, a favorite family recipe, or a simple meal shared around the table everything she prepared was made with love. She found great joy in cooking for those she loved, especially when welcoming out-of-town family and friends. It made her happy to know those she loved were cared for and well fed.
Joyce valued her independence, yet she was deeply grateful to those who supported her when she needed them. Her strength, grace, and appreciation for others remained with her throughout her life.
She will be remembered for many things—her devotion, her humor, her warmth, and her generosity—but most of all for her heart. Those fortunate enough to know her will carry her memory with them always.
A small celebration of life ceremony well be held on Saturday, August 1st for family and any friends who wish to attend, details to follow.
