Ms. Juanita “Big Red” Mitchell, born January 2, 1956, in Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026. Born and raised in Charleston, Juanita was the beloved daughter of Rosa and James Mitchell.

She graduated from Charles A. Brown High School in 1975 and went on to live a life rooted in faith, love, and community. Juanita was a devoted member of Greater Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church, where her love for the Lord was evident to all who knew her.

Juanita, affectionately known as “Big Red,” will be remembered for her vibrant spirit and warm heart. She loved music and dancing, and she had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. Her kindness and joyful presence left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.

She is survived by her loving children, Keisha and Jamie; her cherished grandchildren, Mykeriah, Jamal, and Jaymie; her sisters, Joyce, Darlene, and Linda; her brother, Kelvin; and a host of nieces and nephews who will continue to honor her memory.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa and James Mitchell, and her sister, Suzette.

A memorial service to celebrate Juanita’s life will be held on April 8, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Greater Trinity African Methodist Episcopal Church.

Juanita’s love, laughter, and light will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
