Juanita A. Powell

Juanita A. Powell, (a.k.a Sugar) was born on January 25th, 1968 to Robert D. Powell and Dorothy J. Powell (nee Jones) in Hackensack, NJ. Juanita attended Hackensack public school system and was a graduate of Teterboro High School in 1985. She gave birth to her first daughter, Tiffany C. (Powell) in 1987, and her second daughter Tanisha J. (Jackson) in 1991.

Juanita was a person that enjoyed her family and friends. In her young adulthood she was known amongst her friends to be a social butterfly that loved to drink. She moved to PA with her mother, and children in the early 2000's. She moved back to NJ after her daughters graduated high school to be with her partner, Juan.

As their health became a factor, they had to go their separate ways and so she moved to Columbia, SC with her eldest daughter Tiffany and her 3 grandchildren. The last 5 years was spent with her getting to be a grandma to them. Her grandson, Bishop (17); granddaughters Jayla (15), & Zuri (4) filled her days with activities, laughter, and memories. She will be greatlymissed by them, especially her cartoon buddy Zuzu.

Juanita is survived by her 2 daughters, 6 grandchildren: Tyrese (19); Tiffany's eldest son; and Tanisha's 2 children: Eternity (16), and Ishmael (10). Her mother: Dorothy. Her 2 sisters: Ann Grace and Mary Celeste. Her 4 nieces: Tacoma, Tameka, Teresa, & Tamorae. A host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. She's predecessor by her father, Robert (2002), her eldest sister, Gladys (1987), and her only brother, Raymond (1990).

 Juanita's laugh, smile & joking behavior will be missed by us all.
