Katharine "Kai" Lee Wheatley

November 1, 1952 — May 27, 2018

Kai was a kind-hearted person, spirited and a most loving soul to her many friends and family. She embodied life the way most people would want to draw from and dream about. She had an unwavering gift to share with others, and; certainly passed that on in the most sincere and thoughtful ways with her random acts of kindness towards others.

Kai had a beautiful gift for writing, and while teaching a creative writing course at GMU, her students absolutely loved her, and so appreciated her guidance and her passion in which she taught. She not only wrote a simple paragraph to critique their work, she often would write a short novel in the hopes of leading them to her passion that she so deeply cared about.

We will never forget, the "storyteller". Although, our Kai is gone, her spirit and soul will forever remain in our hearts! She is a true angel that will always be soaring above...She has already welcomed new life into this world with our little Benjamin James.

Kai was one of those "unique" souls that actually wrote handwritten letters to her niece, Kirsten, all throughout her college years. Kirsten treasures that box of letters to this day. Kirsten and her Aunt Kai also created many plays and wrote poems together, that we will always treasure. Kai was a presence in Kirsten's life that will never be forgotten.

Together, as a family, we have always been blessed and fortunate to have grown up with such warmth, compassion, and an unconditional love that we will forever cherish. Our stories are many, and; rich with family love and "special" ties. We will always remember her laughter, her quick wit and bright smile.

Kai had a heart of gold and wanted to be celebrated.

To know Kai, was to love Kai.
