Kathleen Virginia Kavanaugh, age 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on May 9, 2025.
Kathleen was born October 12, 1947 in Munich, Germany.Kathleen was beloved daughter of the late John Michael Kavanaugh and Virginia Ware Gaines of Louisiana. Her father was a US Embassy Diplomat and the Kavanaughs resided in The Hague, Netherlands, Halifax, Nova Scotia and Washington, D.C.
Kathleen and Henry married on October 28, 2002 in Kissimmee, Florida. During their marriage they were inseparable and totally devoted to each other. Kathleen brought joy, laughter and adventure to all those who came to know her.
Kathleen dedicated her professional life to public service and retired from South Carolina State Department of Health and Human Services.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Henry Reuter, her parents, John and Virginia Kavanaugh, her brother Michael Gaines Kavanaugh, her two brothers-in-law Johnny and Tommy Graham, and by her cousin, Pat Kavanaugh and by her endearing friend Robert King of New Orleans, Louisiana.
Survived by her cherished cousins in Louisiana, Patricia Tippit, Martha Kavanaugh, Kay Anderson, Jay Kavanaugh, Lee Kavanaugh and Chris Kavanaugh. Survived also by her two loving sisters-in-law, Jamie Graham of Summerville, South Carolina, and Ann Graham of Merritt Island, Florida, her nephew, John and his wife Samantha Graham of Titusville, Florida.
Kathleen also leaves behind two treasured friends, Mike Johnson and Cynnell Horne, who had a special place in Kathleen’s heart.
Kathleen had many friends, of those that were very close and dear to her include, Charlie, Maureen and Andrew Block, Robert Laurent, of New Orleans, Louisiana, Anna Smith, Bud Ramsey and family, Randy Bowman and family, Darwin and Sylvia Smith, Terry Moore and family, Blane O’Neal of Charleston, South Carolina and last, but not least, Lynn Mitchell of Michigan.
All who knew her will miss Kathleen’s warmth, friendliness, adventurous nature and precious personality.
In accordance with Kathleen’s wishes Kathleen will be cremated, no formal service is planned.
