Kathleen Susan " Kathy " Rettle
February 18, 1951 — May 27, 2021
Kathleen Susan "Kathy " Rettle, 70, of James Island, South Carolina was a caring mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She entered into eternal life on Thursday, May 27, 2021, surrounded by her family.
She was born to the late Edward Adolph Grass and Amelia Elizabeth Pfershy Grass on February 18, 1951 in East St. Louis, Illinois. After graduating from Althoff Catholic High School in Belleville, Illinois, she met her former husband, Terry Rettle. Together, they had 2 children.
Kathy treasured her family and embraced every moment with them. She especially loved being a grandmother. She was genuine at heart, strong at will, resilient, and always caring. She loved entertaining and spending time with friends and family over a great meal followed by board and card games. Kathy was an avid pet lover and advocate of sheltered dogs, adopting most recently Sam and Bella.
Kathy was an insurance professional and was planning to retire this summer. Her clients remember her as a consummate professional who treated them with integrity and respect.
In addition to her parents, Kathy was preceded in death by her brothers, Sp4 Lawrence Grass and Robert Grass. She is survived by her loving children, Kevin Rettle (Jessica) and Laura Rettle. Sister Carolyn Descher (Walter) and brother Charles Grass (Mary). Grandchildren Nicholas and Joshua Rettle; niece Christine Descher (Richard). Proud aunt and cousin to all extended family and friends.
A celebration of Kathy's life will be held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 5923 N Belt W, Belleville, IL 62223 on June 30, 2021. Visitation will be at 3:00pm with a service starting at 4:00pm; reception following at Fletcher’s Kitchen and Tap on Main.
Flowers can be sent to the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Kathy`s memory may be sent to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
