Lawrence C. Polk

August 7, 1943 — November 4, 2024

Edisto Island

On Monday, November 4, 2024, Lawerence ‘Larry’ Charles Polk of Edisto Island, South Carolina (SC), peacefully left the confines of his earthly body to gain his eternal reward. Larry was born in Charleston on August 7, 1943 to Lawerence Polk and Abby Grooms Polk. A graduate of St. Andrew’s High School, Larry went to Louisville, Kentucky for electronics training and returned to Charleston to start his career in shop 67 at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He retired from NavSeaSNLAT in 1995. For many of his retirement years, he dedicated his time to help his daughter’s family landscape company where his work ethic set the example for all who worked with him. Larry was known in his life for his spiritual faith, his love for family, as well as his honesty and integrity.

On November 6, 1965 Larry married his beloved Sarah ‘Tinkle’ Seabrook Bell. They had two children: Kevin Lawrence Polk (Amy) of Chapin, SC and Washington DC and Lara Polk Collins of Edisto Island, SC. Larry and Sarah have five grandchildren who were the light of his life and who he would proudly tell you about all of their accomplishments if you would sit long enough to listen. Matthew Collins (Bess) of Charleston, SC, Shaylah Collins Wilson (Tyler) of Aiken, SC, Tyler Polk of Dayton, OH, Anna Claire Collins of Pendleton, SC and Seabrook Polk, of Chapin, SC.

Larry had a huge heart and his love extended to many beyond his children and grandchildren. His nephews and nieces held a huge piece of his heart. General Rick Ethredge (Angie) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Don Ethredge (Debi) of Mt Pleasant, SC, Joni Ethredge Killough (Carroll) of Matthew’s, NC, Karen Polk Elsey (Ted), of Greenville, SC. Three great nephews and eight great nieces. His favorite hobby was studying his Bible and sharing his knowledge and the Good News to as many people as would listen.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Marshall C Polk, a sister, Doris Polk Ethredge and her husband Charles Ethredge.

The family would love for you to join us in celebration of his life on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at 2:00 at Essex Village Church of Christ, Savage Road, Charleston. SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southeastern Children’s Home, PO Box 339, Duncan, SC 29334, www.sech.org
