Lillian Doris (Frosig) Carlson 94, passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 20th, 2024.
Doris, as her friends knew her, was born on June 30, 1929, in Minneapolis, MN to Danish immigrants. She grew up with her four brothers and parents on the south side of Minneapolis during the Great Depression.
Doris sang in the chorus and played cello in the school orchestra, graduating from Central High School in1947. After high school, Doris worked as a dental receptionist. As fate would have it, George Carlson(her future husband) had chipped a tooth while interning in MN. When he walked into the dentist’s office and saw that gorgeous smile, he was immediately smitten!
Doris & George married April 18,1953, and moved to Avon Lake, Ohio where George started a private optometry practice. They lived in Avon Lake for over 35 years, raising their four children there. Upon retirement, they spent their time traveling between homes in Marblehead, Ohio and Lakeland, Florida. They were married for 66 years before George passed away in 2019.
Doris is lovingly remembered by, brother Gilbert Frosig; Sister-in laws, Gwen Frosig, Nancy Frosig, and Marilyn Frosig ; sons, Glenn (Kim) Carlson, Paul (Debbie) Carlson, Bruce ( Melisa) Carlson, and daughter Jane ( Clifford) Hunt; 13 Grandchildren, Kristin, Gregory, Kaj, Angela, Callie, Alexa, Chase, Morgan, Joshua, Scott, Gavin, Faith and Daniel; and seven great-grandchildren, Rylee, George, August, Myles, Eleanor, Monroe, and Andie Grace; “ like family”, Debbie Lohman; As well as Doris’ large extended Danish and Swedish families.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband George; parents, Mathias and Emma (Nielsen) Frosig; Her brothers, Kristian, Paul, and David; and grandson Kevin Carlson.
Doris will be fondly remembered for her bright smile, infectious laughter, friendly personality, and always dressing sharp. Doris was a woman of faith and a dedicated member of several Lutheran churches where she lived. She was always ready to “take a game” and was very lively and competitive while playing, especially the family favorite game of “marbles”. Doris was also an extremely skilled seamstress and crafter and could be in the running for “most fabric and supplies accumulated when I die“ award.
