Mary Kay Marlowe (née Hall), 61, mother of Ian Marlowe, step mother of Christopher Marlowe, and beloved partner of John Newbanks, passed away without warning on Tuesday June 3rd, 2025 at Shaw AFB in Sumter, South Carolina, leaving her family and friends shocked and deeply saddened.

She was born September 30th, 1963 in Alexandria, Virginia, to Sarah Lee Hall (née Walker) and Henry Arthur Hall. She furthered her education by earning a BA at Randolph-Macon Woman’s College in 1985, a Masters of Arts in International Relations from Boston University (Mannheim, Germany) in 1991, and completed her Juris Doctorate from Indiana University School of Law in 2001.

After a brief first marriage, she married Philip Marlowe with whom she gave birth to Ian in 1992. She founded a law firm, Isufi and Marlowe, and practiced privately until 2005 when the family relocated to Tirana, Albania. After residing there for only five months, the family yet again relocated, this time to Kuwait where she found the job of her dreams with CENTCOM/USARCENT, which she kept until the end.

In 2015 she returned to the United States, acquiring a historic property in Sumter, South Carolina.

Reconnecting with her high-school sweetheart, John Newbanks, the two began dating in earnest in 2021 and were meant to be engaged the weekend after her passing. In the year leading up to her passing, she and John spent countless days and hours antiquing and updating his house into their future retirement home

Beyond Ian, Chris, and John; she is survived by John Jr. (Paula) and Patrick, her three older sisters Donna Lee, Joyce Ann, and Dorothy Lynn, her niece and nephew Laura and Brian, several cousins, her military family and JAG Corps, and countless others who will never forget her and the immense joy she brought to their lives.

A celebration of her life will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina at Wing Haven from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday June 14th. Her ashes will be inurned in the Columbarium at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church.
