Melissa Faith Ketchum-Field, 46, of Charleston, South Carolina entered into eternal peace on Friday, April 12, 2024. Melissa was reunited with her mothers, Debra Seymour "Mother Dear" and Leticia Cunningham "Lola", her father, Edward Ketchum, bonus dad Gary Field, and cousin Steve. Melissa was born in Portsmouth, Virginia on November 23, 1977 and spent many happy years of her life in Elmira, New York raising her children. Melissa was a proud graduate of Southside High School Class of 1995, and a devoted Green Hornet, who then pursued her dream of becoming a Cosmetologist and a Mother. Melissa embraced and understood what a new hairdo and some makeup could do for the soul. Melissa had an innate desire to connect with others, support them, and lift them up, especially behind the chair or behind the mic.
Melissa's greatest accomplishments, her pride and joy, were her "three beautiful children", her "A Team". If you knew Melissa, you know how much she loved, adored, and cherished her children, how proud she was of each of them, and the adults they have become.
Melissa enjoyed the simple things in life; she loved to be in the salon, drink her morning coffee, sing in the shower, write her book, go all out at karaoke, cook, clean, go to bingo, read, go on long walks, yell through the walls of the house, stick her tongue out when she danced, do her hair and makeup, and spend time with her family. Above everything, she loved to love and be loved.
"Mo" will be remembered for her contagious laughter, endearing smile, kindness, unwavering friendship, happiness, positivity, cheerful demeanor, keen Neologic Abilities, free spirit, and most of all, the love she had for her children.
Melissa is survived by the loving father of their three children, Shawn Field (Tina Bruckman), and her "three beautiful kids", Alexis Field, Andrew Field, and Aimee Field, her baby sister, Valerie Ketchum, her brothers Ian (Peggy) Ketchum, and Robert (Jessica) Ketchum, her loving nieces Mariah Ketchum (Ryan), and Miss. Ava Lynn Batrowny, her nephews Hayden Ketchum, and Jerimiah Ketchum, her Filipino Family, Ananluz Dungca, Vivalyn Dungca, Joanne Fuller, Jennifer Mariskanish, and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 pm on Sunday, April 28, 2024 at the Pennsylvania Avenue United Methodist Church, 1238 Pennsylvania Avenue Pine City, New York, 14871. Following the Memorial Service, friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Melissa's Life from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, April 28, 2024 in the Barrel House of Ill Eagle Taphouse, 200 East Church Street Elmira, New York, 14901.
