Goose Creek

 Monnie Thomas Privette went to her Heavenly Home on June 1, 2025 with her loving husband and caregiver Richard Dargan (Buddy) Privette of 59 years and 10 months by her side.

Monnie was born November 9, 1944, in Hartsville, SC, along with her twin sister, Jonnie. She was the daughter of John Hamilton (Buck) Thomas and Claudine Gardner Thomas. Monnie graduated from Hartsville High School with the class of ’63. Years later, she graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, KY and then received her Master’s in Library & Information Science from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She was a Library Media Specialist for many years in schools where they lived while travelling around with Richard’s job.

She loved books and her students. Being an avid reader, she helped establish a book club in the Goose Creek, SC area called Curves Book Club. The name was later changed to The Literary Ladies Book Club. She always had a book or two by her favorite reading chair.

 Monnie loved her church, Peace Presbyterian Church, her Lord & Savior, and all her Christian friends who were a great part of her Prayer Warriors group. She was a member of the Eager to Learn Sunday School Class, the Tuesday Morning Bible Study group, the Wednesday Night Bible Study, and The Little Pantry outreach mission.

 She was a devoted wife, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother who was lovingly known as GranMonnie. She is survived by her loving husband, Richard Dargan (Buddy) Privette, of Goose Creek, SC, her beloved sons Richard (Ritchie) Hamilton (Rebecca) Privette of Plano, Texas, Randy Dargan (Teri) Privette of Henderson, KY, special grandchildren Richard Tyler (Emily) Privette, Flower Mound, Texas, Cole Dargan Privette, Lexington, KY, Maggie Lee Privette, Lexington, KY and Matthew Hamilton Privette, Flower Mound, Texas, Great-Grandchildren Ensley Ann and Cayson Don Privette, Flower Mound, Tx. Two wonderful sisters, Beth Thomas Morrell, Hartsville, SC., and her twin sister Jonnie Thomas Estermyer of Hartsville, SC. Lots of special nieces and nephews. A God-son Benjamin Bryan, Gainesville Georgia. A longtime friend & heart-sister Stephanie B. Easterling, Daniel Island, SC. Monnie also is survived by her special “second” Privette family: Georgianna, Lougenia, Flora Beth, and Tom.

She was predeceased by her parents, John Hamilton (Buck) Thomas and Claudine Gardner Thomas, and her sister Sybil Thomas Rudisell. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Presbyterian Church, The Little Pantry Mission, 174 Londonderry Road, Goose Creek, SC 29445.
