Peggy Lee Barras

Peggy, born on December 19, 1958, in Great Lakes, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family, who will forever cherish her memory and the indelible impact she had on their lives. Peggy was the beloved daughter of Richard Zimmerman and Patricia Crozier and oldest sister to five siblings (Dale(deceased) (Laurie) Zimmerman Summerton SC, Karen (Phil) Luna Memphis TN, David (Sherry) Zimmerman Summerville SC, Dennis (Barbara) Zimmerman Findlay OH and Denise (Sammie) Sweatman Bonneau SC).

She was raised in a warm and caring household, where she learned the values of kindness, compassion, and resilience. These virtues would define her life and the relationships she nurtured throughout her journey. A proud graduate of Macedonia High School in 1978, Peggy was known for her infectious spirit and boundless energy. It was during her high school years that she met John Barras, the love of her life. Peggy and John married on April 1, 1981, in Summerville, SC, and together they shared 35 wonderful years of marriage. Their union was a testament to true partnership, marked by shared dreams, unwavering support, and a home filled with love and laughter. Peggy and John were blessed with three children, and together they created a nurturing environment that allowed their family to flourish. Although predeceased by her husband John Barras and son Michael Seegers, Peggy leaves behind her cherished sons Jay Barras (Erica Jenkins) and John Barras (JungHee Barras).

She was the proud grandmother of four (Colene Barras, Merra Cardwell, Krisana Cardwell, Dannion Cardwell) and whose lives were enriched by her warmth, humor, and wisdom. Peggy's enduring legacy is one of love and resilience. Her strength in the face of adversity inspired all who knew her, and her unwavering positivity was a beacon of hope and encouragement. Her family and friends will forever remember her as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose kindness knew no bounds. In honor of Peggy's life and her brave battle with cancer, the family requests that contributions be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, based in Atlanta, GA. This organization held a special place in Peggy's heart, and it is the family's hope that donations made in her name will help bring hope and healing to others facing similar challenges. As we say goodbye to Peggy, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Her spirit will forever be a guiding light in the lives of those she touched.
