On May 15, 2026, Richard Eugene “Gene” Paris passed away quietly at 96 years of age at Victory House for Veterans in Walterboro, SC. Gene was born in Atlanta, Georgia on December 16, 1929.

Gene lived a long and meaningful life defined by faith, family, lifelong friendships, a deep love for animals and very much a "dog whisperer"! Known for strength of character and quiet wisdom, Gene valued what mattered most—relationships, hard work, and living with purpose.

Education included time at Georgia Military Academy and graduation from Georgia State University, where he earned a degree in Business Administration.Following graduation, Gene served proudly in the United States Air National Guard for 3 yrs, the US Air Force for 1.5 years, and the Air Force Reserve for a year.

Professionally, Gene was involved with automobile business, beginning in youth by helping his Dad at a Ford dealership in East Point, Georgia. His Dad was his mentor, closest friend and always there for him. Gene built a long and respected career, eventually serving as both dealer and general manager. Although the original dream was to become a veterinarian, the path taken became a source of pride and accomplishment.

Faith became a central pillar of life. After a powerful personal turning point, Gene experienced a renewed spiritual commitment and sought to live with purpose as a devoted Christian. This faith guided daily life, encouraging compassion, forgiveness, and service to others, including helping those in need and supporting church and community efforts. Above all, Gene cherished family life, believing the most meaningful moments were those spent together—sharing meals, attending church, traveling, or simply enjoying each other’s company. A hope often expressed was to see future generations continue to grow and thrive.

A defining passion throughout life was a love for animals, especially dogs. Many were raised, trained, and cared for over the years, bringing companionship, joy, and purpose. Certain pets, such as Chochoo and others, were especially meaningful, remembered for their loyalty and unconditional love. This connection reflected a broader belief that animals often embody the best qualities of devotion and trust.

Gene also enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting, working on antiques and time outdoors, often holding onto meaningful possessions that told a story or represented a moment in life. These interests reflected appreciation for craftsmanship, history, and lasting value.

Personally, Gene was self-aware and reflective—valuing kindness, fairness, and emotional growth. There was a belief in treating others with respect, standing firm in one’s values, and learning from life’s challenges. Gene will be remembered as someone who lived with faith, loyalty, and quiet strength—a person who valued family above all, built lasting friendships, and found genuine joy in simple, meaningful moments.

Gene is survived by his daughter Jean Paris of Alpharetta, GA; his son, Breck, and his wife Mattie of Colorado Springs,CO and 2 grandsons; Henry and his wife Emily and their son John Henry of Mississippi and grandson Jack of Colorado Springs, CO. Also, many nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his wife Cindy, whom he cherished and is now reunited with.
