Rik Cribb

It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of our local legend and beloved husband and father, Richard Larry Cribb, Jr. known by all as Rik. Rik was 55 years young born January 18, 1970, passing June 6, 2025 after a strong fight against an incurable lung disease recently diagnosed. He was and still is surrounded by so much love he will forever be in our hearts and souls.

Rik was born in Charleston, SC to parents Mary Ann and Richard Larry Cribb. From an early age his love for music took him to great heights from the Charleston music scene all the way to LA and back again. From his solo career to his time with his beloved bands SKWZBXX with whom he owned the stage, The Cribb, in which he played with his also very talented brothers, The Joy of Learning, Rik Cribb and the Problems, Elbow, Billy’s Platypus, and Dursban Elevator, there isn’t a place in Charleston that doesn’t have a beautiful memory of Rik’s voice and presence. When he walked into a room or took the stage you knew it and couldn’t get enough. That brings us to his theatrical presence in masterful performances like Jesus Christ Superstar in which his performance as Jesus is still talked about to this day as just incredible. Aside from his musical and theatrical talents from vocals to his immense writing skill, we must not forget his art. He has created pieces that will last forever that many of you hold dear, he continued to create until his last days. His newly founded Meggett Bed Company also showed the depths of his creative genius. For those of you that helped him get off the ground and have one of those swings, please kick back on it and enjoy a fond memory of Rik.

In addition to Rik’s incredible musical and artistic career, he also gave his life for his country and family by choosing to work as a civilian contractor with the DOD and State Department. Doing five tours overseas in Afghanistan and surrounding territories, he continued to prove himself over and over again to be a hero and a dedicated and loving father.

Rik is survived by his beloved wife, Jennifer Drinkwater; his amazing four children, Zoe Dylan, Walter Jude, Randy Cash, and Richard Cohen; his talented brothers, Billy and Derek Cribb; his mother, Mary Ann and father, Larry; and his ex-wife, Becca Woods Cribb. Albeit not blood related I would be remiss not to say he is also survived by the thousands of friends and fans he knew and touched in his much too short life. He was one of a kind to say the least. Being his wife was the best gift I have ever received.

Thank you to all of you, too many to name here, for your overwhelming support during Rik’s last days and the continued support of his family. It meant everything to him and means the world to us.

Memorial Services will be held at East Cooper Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday June 17, 2025, located at 361 Egypt Rd. Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. The service will be followed by a Celebration of Life and Rik Cribb art exhibit at Firefly Distillery beginning at 1:00 p.m. Please join us and celebrate this tremendous man’s life.

The last words he sang on June 6 were his lyrics “I spent my whole life running but now I’m standing still” which I found profound and as all of you know not the case. He is still running and singing and providing life and love for everyone that is there now holding those beautifully talented hands. He will never stand still, he will live on forever with all of us.
