Ronald Philip Duck was born on June 7, 1954 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He died February 16, 2026 in Columbia, South Carolina, after a brief illness.

Everyone knew him as “Phil.” He graduated from Spring Valley High School in Columbia, South Carolina in 1972 and from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College in 1974 and later attended the University of South Carolina. He spent a successful career in the shoe retail business and helped his dad run the family shoe business in Walterboro, SC for several years. He also worked at Lourie’s, Parisian’s and Macy’s in Columbia, in sales and sales management.

He liked to tinker and make things with his hands, and he was a master woodworker. In 1997, Phil was recognized as the number one handyman in the nation by the Handyman Club of America. They published many of his ideas and inventions in their national publications.

His favorite TV programs were “Shark Tank” and “Perry Mason,” both indicative of his inventive and problem-solving nature. He also enjoyed watching NFL football.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Willard Berry Duck Jr. and Della Josephine Duck. He is survived by his brother, Larry Duck (Christine) in Marion, South Carolina; his brother, Mike Duck (Kaye) in Charleston, South Carolina; and his sister, Elizabeth Hilton (Jeffery) in Chapin, South Carolina. He was also a doting uncle to his nieces and nephews. Phil was known for his contagious smile, signature laugh and his compassion for others. He will be truly missed by all who knew him.
