Rose Marie Bear

Rose Marie Bear, 83, of Awendaw, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on May 26, 1942, in West Liberty, Kentucky, Rose lived a life centered around family, hard work, and the beauty of simple things. She carried with her the warmth and resilience of her Kentucky roots throughout her life. Over the years, she worked many different jobs, but the roles she cherished most were those that allowed her to care for others and create a welcoming home. She had a remarkable talent for cooking and could make anyone feel loved with a home-cooked meal. Her gardens were a source of pride and joy, and she found happiness in tending flowers, growing vegetables, and preserving what she grew through canning.

Rose felt most at peace outdoors, surrounded by nature. She loved birdwatching and could spend hours admiring the wildlife around her home. In her later years, her favorite place in the world was her front porch, where she would sit quietly listening to birdsong, enjoying the breeze, and watching the changing seasons. She appreciated life's quieter moments and found beauty in everyday things that many people overlook.

Rose enjoyed coloring in her coloring books, watching Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, old westerns, and scary movies. She loved gospel music, antiques, corny jokes, and cake, and treasured every moment spent with her family. Known for her wicked sense of humor, Rose was fluent in sarcasm and always able to make those around her laugh.

She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Angie McMahan (Robert) and Laura Pavlech (Mike); her sisters, Mary Hodge and Sue Tackett (Lee); her seven grandchildren, Sara, Samantha, Caleb, Taylor, Dylan, Sophie, and Tanner; and her four great-grandchildren, Noah, Brody, Penelope, and Oliver. She is also survived by her nephew, Stan Hodge (Patricia), and her niece, Stephanie Smith (Randy).

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Stanley and Mabel Tackett; Raymond Hodge; Caleb Surface; Lowell Elam; and Dick Taylor.

A celebration of Rose's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes donations to The Carolina Wildlife Rehabilitation Center.
